Roel Claassen, Managing Director of GD Medical, is very excited about the introduction of the plasma care® products in the region.

“Cold plasma therapy is going to revolutionize the treatment of patients with chronic wounds in the Benelux countries. The effect of cold plasma has convinced the sales staff of GD Medical with its effectiveness and handling and is the perfect addition to our existing portfolio.”

Roel Claassen, Managing Director of GD Medical

The use of cold plasma in hospitals, nursing homes and private practices, will provide a future-oriented alternative to existing therapies and be an additional treatment. It reduces the use of antibiotics or cortisone and causes neither side effects, allergic reactions nor pain. It activates cell growth, stimulates blood circulation and cell metabolism and thus stimulates wound healing.

We are talking about a quantum leap in medical technology available for the treatment of acute and chronic wounds as well as dermatological skin diseases. The clinical experience of the last few years has shown that this new form of therapy, in addition to its bactericidal and healing-promoting effect, offers further benefits for the health care system: e.g. a reduction in nursing and dressing costs for chronic wounds or wounds contaminated with multi-resistant pathogens. Through the postoperative use of the devices, a longer hospital admission of the patient can be avoided. By reducing the use of antibiotics, developing resistances can be avoided. In dermatology, fewer anti-inflammatory drugs would be used. Ultimately, the healing of hard-to-heal wounds such as diabetic foot or postoperative wound healing disorders significantly improves the quality of life of patients.

terraplasma medical GmbH, based in Garching near Munich, was founded in 2016 by terraplasma GmbH, a spin-off of the Max Planck Society. The idea: to use the antimicrobial and tissue-regenerating effect of cold plasma in medicine with a small handheld device for stationary and mobile use. In 2019, the medical product plasma care® was approved for the treatment of chronic wounds, and in 2021 plasma derma care® for the treatment of skin diseases caused by bacteria and fungi. Currently, terraplasma medical is researching and developing other clinical application areas such as dentistry and respiratory infections.
