terraplasma medical

From space travel to medicine: discover how terraplasma medical is pushing the boundaries of science to revolutionize wound healing with groundbreaking cold plasma technology and give new hope to patients worldwide. Our plasma care®technology sets new standards in the treatment of acute and chronic wounds – safe, effective and scientifically proven.

terraplasma medical GmbH was founded in 2016 as a subsidiary of terraplasma GmbH, a spin-off of the Max Planck Society, with the aim of transferring the groundbreaking findings of cold plasma research into practical medical applications. The origins of this technology go back over three decades and were largely researched at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Gregor Morfill. His work covered not only astrophysical issues, but also the investigation of complex plasmas and their potential applications in medicine. A notable aspect of Prof. Morfill’s research was conducting experiments on plasma crystallization under microgravity conditions on the International Space Station (ISS). These experiments enabled a deeper understanding of plasma physics and laid the foundation for the development of cold plasma technologies that are used in medicine today. With the founding of terraplasma medical GmbH, the vision of making cold plasma usable for the treatment of chronic and acute wounds was realized. The company developed the  plasma care®, a mobile, CE-certified medical device that generates cold plasma to inactivate bacteria, including multi-resistant pathogens, viruses, fungi and spores, while promoting the healing process. terraplasma medical GmbH’s close connection to basic research and the successful transfer of space technologies into medical practice underline the company’s innovative strength. Through continuous research and development, terraplasma medical makes a significant contribution to the further development of cold plasma technology and to setting new standards in medical treatment.

Science with origins in space travel

terraplasma medical GmbH was founded in 2016 as a subsidiary of terraplasma GmbH – a spin-off of the Max Planck Society. Our goal: to translate the groundbreaking findings of cold plasma research into practical medical solutions.

The origins of our technology go back over three decades. It was largely researched at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Gregor Morfill. His work covered not only astrophysical issues, but also the medical applications of complex plasmas.

A particular highlight: experiments on the International Space Station (ISS). Prof. Morfill investigated plasma crystallization under microgravity conditions – and thus laid the foundation for today’s medical cold plasma technology.

plasma care®: Medical progress, made by terraplasma medical

With the founding of terraplasma medical, the vision became reality: to make cold plasma usable for wound treatment. Our product plasma care® is a mobile, CE-certified medical device that:

  • Bacteria (including multi-resistant pathogens) inactivated,

  • viruses, fungi and spores,

  • and at the same time promotes natural wound healing.

Thanks to close links with basic research and the successful transfer of space technologies to medicine, we are continuously driving forward the development of cold plasma technology. Our drive: to set new standards in medicine and give new hope to patients worldwide.
